Civil Construction Surveying – Golden Plains Wind Farm

One of Swanson Surveying’s latest renewable energy projects is the Golden Plains Wind Farm, a significant Victorian venture that will be Australia’s largest wind farm to date and power more than 765,000 homes. This $3 billion plus project is a landmark clean energy project for Victoria and Australia.

The Golden Plains Wind Farm-East phase commenced construction in the first quarter of 2023 and features 122 turbines and is currently owned by Ingka Group and TagEnergy. The Golden Plains Wind Farm-West phase of the project is owned by WestWind Energy and is to commence construction in 2024.

Our ongoing windfarm works include civil set out and conformance for roads and hardstands, foundation construction, HD bolt conformance, machine control models and support, civil design support, feature and level surveys, control network. Our windfarm team consists of 2-3 fulltime surveyors plus off-site support.

These large scale, renewable energy projects in remote locations can present some unique challenges including resourcing, constantly changing designs, timely and accurate conformance reporting deadlines and managing large survey datasets.
